Learning what it takes to be a Real Internet Success.

What does Success mean to you? Part 3

So what is the difference between things you need to do and things you can have other people do?

The difference is making the choice to delegate. For example, I could delegate writing this post to someone else. But then it would not be my feelings in the words and it would not be my writing style.

I could delegate someone else to posting it on the blog, but then it would not be me enjoying writing and posting to my blog.

I could even delegate pretty much anything in life to someone else. But then I would not be running my own business, or enjoying my life.

The point here is that I enjoy these things, and I can do them pretty quickly and effectively myself. So I do them myself. However, I do not do my own plumbing work in my house (If I can avoid it), because I do not enjoy it. I do not spend my time doing things that I do not enjoy, unless there is no other choice.

Now think about this, if you could delegate your work to someone else and still get paid a fair wage for it, wouldn’t you? I bet you would.

So how come you are not doing it yet?

Most people are too caught up in the day-to-day mundane details that they never get out ahead of the game. The lack of big picture thinking is nothing new.

For example, home ownership is a big picture. Many people think they cannot afford to own a home. But a home mortgage can often be less then a rented apartment. You get tax benefits that you would not get on an apartment, as well as equity. But still so many people think they cannot own a home.

They think, “I cannot afford a down payment”. Sure you can. Save your money, move to a less expensive apartment for a year. Eat out less. There are many things we can do to track our expenses and find out where our money goes. Heck, I used to eat out every day when I was in the traditional J-O-B market. That was an average meal of $10 each for at least 2 or 3 times a day. Doing the math that is $20 to $30 per day, and nearly $600 to $900 per month.

When I stopped eating out all the time, I could spend $300 on groceries and put the other money where it needed to go. For me that was a savings of $300 to $600 per month. But I had to realize that I was spending it all, and that I could change it.

It would have been all too easy to claim I could not afford a house. But the truth was I could not afford to eat out all the time. There were better uses for that money then making the local restaurants wealthy.

The same mentality can be applied to our work loads. Delegate the mundane tasks that you do not like to do, so that you can spend time concentrating your energy and time where it is needed the most. If you start your own business, online or offline, then you need to have specific tasks done.

These tasks include product creation, product purchase, stocking, shipping, management, marketing, research, and any number of a hundred other issues that need to be covered. You simply cannot do them all yourself.

Believe me, I tried once too. We all start out believing we can do it all. You are not really going to save as much money as you think. You simply need to spend your money more wisely. But that’s for a later conversation.

To your future success.
